Luke was waiting with the phone when I emerged dressed in a pair of too-tight sleep shorts and a tank top with a built-in bra.

“Woah, headlights,” Luke smirked.

I covered my arms over my chest. “Shut up, it’s not like I had a ton of choices and the air conditioning is cranked to sixty-two.” Probably because of Marge’s hot flashes. She was always either sweating or freezing.

“He wants to talk to you.” Luke did one more appreciative sweep of my body before handing me the phone, which I had to uncross an arm to take.

He smirked at my rack and I gave him the finger. His laughter echoed in the tiled bathroom.

“Hey,” I said to Logan because there was no doubt in my mind who he was.

“You okay?” His voice rumbled in my ear.

“Other than turning into a human popsicle, yeah. You?” I snagged a knit blanket off the back of an armchair and wrapped it around myself.

“Gertie came by. Didn’t say a word. Brought me Abu and a few dozen bananas. I’m still not sure if they’re for him or for me.”

“Probably both.” I settled back on the bed. “How’s your nose?”

“Hurts.”

I winced. “I’m so sorry. I don’t know what came over me.”

“I do and it’s mostly my fault. I know you have…issues.”

“No, I don’t.”

He snorted.

“Okay. Maybe I have a suspicious mind but that proves useful in my line of work.” Serving people with notices they didn’t want to receive meant that you had to outsmart the sneaky ones.

“But not in a relationship.” I could tell in the change of tone that Logan was stretching out onto his back. “Look, Jackie, if you don’t trust me, then I don’t know what the hell we’re doing here.”

“Me? You’re the one who is keeping me in the dark about everything.”

“I know and like I said, I’m partly to blame. But your insecurities about Corrine are becoming a problem.”

“Logan, the last I heard she was missing right on the heels of her ex being murdered. I thought I saw her. I went after her. Don’t make a federal case out of it.”

“And you’re sure that’s all it is?”

I sank deeper into the chair. “Maybe there’s a little more."

“ I don’t know what to say other than I don’t have feelings for her. But it’s up to you to believe me.”

I was quiet for a long moment.

“About you staying with Luke…” he said.

“Don’t tell me that bothers you? We’re divorced.”

“Divorce doesn’t mean feelings end,” Logan said in a soft voice.

“No, they don’t. But Luke has moved on.”

“I wasn’t talking about his feelings.”

I sucked in a sharp breath.

Logan chuckled darkly. “It’s probably best that I’m an hour plus away or you’d be winding up to hit me again.”

“No, I wouldn’t,” I said and forced my hand to unclench from a fist.

“I do love you, you know,” the Dark Prince murmured.

“Sometimes you have odd ways of demonstrating it.” I clutched the phone, not wanting to let him go. “Logan?”

“Yeah?”

“I do trust you. Really. But I need to know you trust me.
